Heritage Open Days offer the chance to see inside many historic buildings. The Lyme Regis Society is promoting these venues for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy this September.
Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th, 10am – 4pm

Home of Eleanor Coade, business woman and inventor of Coade Stone and later John Fowles, author of ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’. The local ‘Powder Monkeys’ sea scouts will be providing refreshments in the garden.

Festive Mural – Lyme Regis Nursing Home, Pound Rd, DT7 3HX
Wyndham Payne, a leader at a nearby camp, hand painted these children’s ward murals after visiting two boys from the camp that were amongst the first occupants of the then hospital.

The Guildhall, Bridge Street, DT7 3QA
A barrel ceiling, wooden panelling and a host of history are here with stunning views over the bay. Cross-stitch cushions on the council benches capture the whole of Lyme Regis, including the seagulls! The Town Council meets here and it hosts civic ceremonies such as Mayor Making.

The Cemetery Chapel, Charmouth Road, DT7 3HH
The chapel was originally planned in 1856 and features spectacular hand painted walls.

The Peek Chapel, Pound Street, DT7 3HZ
Built in 1884 this is now an event space & wedding venue. Visit ‘Crafts at the Chapel’.
The Town Mill, Mill Lane, Coombe Street, DT7 3PU
Built in the 1300s and open every day to demonstrate how flour is produced. Have a go at using a mill wheel yourself. See the huge wooden mill water wheel turn. www.townmill.org.uk
